Handlebars is a templating language: markup with placeholders such as {{revenue}} and blocks that repeat over rows. A Handlebars chart in Apache Superset hands the result of its query to such a template, so a chart can be any markup: a styled table, a scorecard, a comparison with coloured cells.
The freedom has a cost. The browser has to compile the template, and Superset's default security policy forbids exactly that, while its HTML sanitiser strips classes and styles.
Where it appears in DASH:Gen
DASH:Gen keeps a library of chart templates: built-in ones, your own, and published ones. An HTML dashboard can pin one to a chart and renders it inside the file. An Apache Superset run can add a Handlebars tab of such charts; on a stock Superset that tab shows error boxes and ends with a note naming what the instance needs. How to write a template is in the chart template docs.
